Frequently asked questions

Everything to know before you give

Is it an official name?

No. It is a symbolic dedication in the private Starry Memory registry: the star keeps its astronomical reference (HIP), and the name you choose is not recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

What exactly do I receive?

A two-page A4 PDF: the certificate in the name you chose, with its QR code, and the guide to observe the star. The star is assigned only once in our private registry.

How do you find the star?

Scan the certificate’s QR code with the phone camera, no app needed. The “Your star” page shows the star in 3D and then, with the phone raised, its direction in the sky from where you are.

Will it be visible to the naked eye?

With the “Visible to the naked eye” (€17.91) and “Remarkable white star” (€44.91) levels, yes, under a dark sky: the star is magnitude 6 or brighter. The catalogue star (€8.91) is often too faint for the naked eye: look for it with binoculars or follow the direction shown. Weather and time matter too.

When do I receive it?

Right away: the PDF downloads as soon as the payment is confirmed. Keep your order link to download it again. Nothing is sent by post: you print it or pass it on yourself.

In which languages?

The site and the certificate are available in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese: the certificate is written in the language of the page you order from.

How does payment work?

On a secure Stripe payment page. You see a free preview of the certificate and the total price before you pay.

Symbolic dedication in the private Starry Memory registry

Give a star and find it in the sky

Giving a star with Starry Memory means choosing a real star from the Hipparcos catalogue and dedicating it to the name of your choice in the private Starry Memory registry. The two-page A4 PDF certificate carries a QR code: scanned with a phone’s camera, no app needed, it opens the “My star” page, which shows the star in 3D and then points to its direction in the sky from where you stand. It is a symbolic dedication: it confers neither ownership of the star nor an official name recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

Three levels: catalogue star €8.91, visible to the naked eye €17.91, remarkable white star €44.91. The PDF downloads as soon as the payment is confirmed, after a free preview. Name a star · See the “My star” example · Buying and naming a star: what it really means
