Name a star as a gift: buy a star with a personalised certificate

A personalised star certificate in PDF format and the assignment of a HIP reference to your order in our private registry. You are not buying the star, an official astronomical name or a financial investment. Starry Memory is not affiliated with the IAU.

They just scan the QR code printed on the certificate with their phone camera: the star’s page opens in the browser, with no app, showing the star in 3D with its name, its date and its position. The “Find my star in the sky” button then works out where to look from where they are, using the phone’s orientation sensors when it has them. With a compatible headset (WebXR), the page also offers to see it in virtual reality. The recipient’s name and the message never appear there. The star’s brightness, weather, light and the time of night decide visibility.

The distance is a catalogue estimate, not an exact measurement; it stays unreported if no usable estimate is available. A HIP code does not guarantee visibility with the naked eye. Check the magnitude, your location, the date and observing conditions.

After payment is verified and assignment is confirmed, the two-page A4 PDF is available through your order confirmation. It contains your numbered certificate and guide. No postal delivery, frame, sky poster or automatic email is included. Save the PDF and private link.

Publication is off by default. If you enable it, only the name entered for the star can appear with its HIP reference and status. The recipient, message and email fields are never published. Choose a name you are comfortable sharing publicly.

Yes. Use the publication setting available through your private order access. Removing the name from public display does not remove your certificate or internal assignment and does not make the star available again.

After Stripe payment is verified and assignment is confirmed, this HIP reference is associated with one order in this private catalogue. Our commitment applies only to our internal registry. It does not guarantee exclusivity elsewhere or that nobody has ever named or dedicated this star. Selecting a star and creating a preview do not assign it. Any reservation during payment is temporary. Assignment only takes effect after Stripe payment verification and confirmation in our registry. If it is still pending, check your order status. Starry Memory sets certificate prices between €8.91 and €2,241. Selections use astronomical profiles documented through SIMBAD and the cited publications. Some tiers also use historical HYG apparent magnitude, with thresholds of 6 and 8; this does not guarantee naked-eye visibility. Sources describe properties, not prices. Your total is shown before payment and colour does not change the price of the same star. Starry Memory commercial price: not a valuation, investment value or measure of the star’s rarity. A specialised profile requires a confirmed classification or a documented individual case study; missing or ambiguous properties are not assumed. Orders from versions v1 and v2 retain their original prices and terms. The new unique assignment within the private catalogue does not apply retrospectively to those certificates or invalidate them.

Pick an available star in the chooser (a real star from the Hipparcos catalogue), give it the name you want, add the recipient, a date and a message, then pay: the PDF certificate is ready at once. The name is a symbolic dedication recorded in our private registry; only the International Astronomical Union gives official names, and it sells none.

Yes. The PDF is A4: print it at home or at a print shop, ideally on thick paper, then frame it or slip it into a card. No postal delivery is included.

Yes. Enter both first names as the recipient and a star name that tells your story. Each certificate is for one star.

It is not a scam as long as the site honestly presents a symbolic gift. Nobody can sell a star or an official name; be wary of sites that promise one.
