It is not a PDF but a printable image that many print services accept. The download button appears on the order confirmation page as soon as the payment is validated. You then print it at home, at a photo shop or online, in A3, A2 or 50 × 70 cm. The preview is free, so you see your design before you pay.

The poster download is a high-resolution PNG, including when you arrive searching for a “star map PDF”.
Many people search for a “star map PDF”. The Starry Memory poster comes as a PNG: an image, not a multi-page document. For a photo print or a poster, the image is what matters, and many print services, online or in store, accept this format. If your printer insists on a PDF, ask for the expected dimensions. Common software can save an image as a PDF; if you do so, check that the page matches the print size and that the image has not been scaled down. The only PDF that Starry Memory sells is the star certificate, a different product described below.
The file has the proportions of A paper sizes. At A2 (42 × 59.4 cm) it gives about 300 pixels per inch: this is the reference size. At A3 (29.7 × 42 cm) the density rises to about 424 pixels per inch, more than enough for a frame on a shelf. At 50 × 70 cm it stays close to 255 pixels per inch; this format is slightly wider than the file, so plan a margin of a few millimetres on each side or a mount. At 70 × 100 cm the density falls to around 180 pixels per inch: ask your printer for advice. Enlarging the image does not add detail.
Most home printers stop at A4, which is useful for a test print but rarely for the final poster. For A3 or larger, use a photo shop, a print shop or an online service. A few general tips: a fairly heavy matte or satin paper, often between 170 and 250 g/m², limits reflections on a dark background. Choose the “fit” option rather than “fill” so that names and message are not cropped. Night backgrounds often come out darker on paper than on screen: if the printer offers a proof, take it. Send the original file, never a screenshot or an image passed through a messaging app, which compresses it.
On a phone, the file is saved to your downloads or to the Files app, depending on your device. You can send it straight to an online print service from the phone or move it to a computer. Open the whole image before giving it: check the names, date, place and message. Keep a backup copy in your usual storage space so you can reprint it later without searching for it.
There are two free previews. The free star map tool, with no account, shows the sky over a city from the list for a date between 1900 and today, at 10 pm local time; its 720 × 960 pixel image downloads with a watermark. For the poster, the creator shows the full preview of your design: the time of your choice, six styles, your names and your message. That preview also carries a watermark, which the paid file does not have. You can therefore adjust and proofread everything before deciding. The free preview can be printed small, but its resolution does not suit a poster.
The file suits you if you want to print it yourself, choose your own frame or give the gift tonight. If you would rather receive an object, the A3 poster costs €39.90, the A2 €54.90, and the wood-framed poster starts at €134.90. These formats are printed on demand by Gelato; availability, timing and any delivery supplement for your country are checked before payment. The HD file is included with every poster and every frame. Our “digital vs printed star map” page compares both options point by point.
A star map tells the story of a moment and a place. If your gift is first of all about a person, the star certificate is the other gift that is ready as soon as you pay. You pick a star from the Hipparcos catalogue in the 3D chooser, write the name and the dedication, then download a two-page A4 PDF: the numbered certificate and a guide to locate the star. There are three catalogue options: €9.90, €19.90 and €49.90. It is a symbolic dedication in the private Starry Memory registry: it does not change the star’s scientific name, and seeing it with the naked eye depends on the option, the place, the time and the sky.
No. The poster is a PNG image of 4960 × 7016 pixels, 300 DPI at A2. That image is what you send to the printer. If the printer insists on a PDF, ask how the file should be prepared; most software can save an image as a PDF. The star certificate, on the other hand, is a PDF.
Yes. At A2 (42 × 59.4 cm) the density is about 300 pixels per inch, and at 50 × 70 cm about 255, with a thin margin. At 70 × 100 cm it drops to around 180 pixels per inch, so check the result with your printer. Enlarging the image does not add detail.
The file is available as soon as the payment is validated, once it has been prepared from your design. The download button appears on the confirmation page. There is no production and no postal delivery. If the button does not appear, keep your order reference and contact support before paying a second time.
The file reproduces the design approved at the moment of payment, and the website offers no editing after purchase. Proofread the names, date, time and place in the preview. If the mistake is ours, a replacement or refund is offered. For another version, create a new design.
No. The free previews carry a watermark to protect the design before purchase. The paid file is generated separately, in high definition and without a watermark, with the same design as the approved preview.
The file is made to your specifications. As our terms of sale state (Article L221-28 of the French Consumer Code), the right of withdrawal does not apply to personalised goods. If there is a defect or an error on our part, a replacement or refund is offered: write to support (contact@starry-memory.com) with your order reference.
Yes. The free star map tool creates, without an account, a 720 × 960 pixel image with a watermark. It is enough for a small print or for sharing. For a sharp poster without a watermark, you need the HD file at €3.99.
