A Christmas gift you can't buy on Amazon
The night sky of any meaningful date — wrapped up by Christmas Eve
Every December, we ask the same question: what do I get them? The candle, the bottle of wine, the cosy socks. None of it surprises anyone any more. A star map of a date that matters to them — birthday, wedding, the day they got their dog — does.
Why choose Starry Memory
- Last-minute friendly — December 23rd at 11pm? No problem. The HD file is available to download on the site once payment is validated. Print it, frame it, wrap it.
- For anyone on your list — Works for parents (their wedding sky), kids (your sky as a family), grandparents (their birth sky), partners, siblings — any relationship, any meaningful date.
- Beats every generic gift — Cosy socks, candles, chocolates, slippers — these are forgotten by January. A star map gets framed.
- Printed poster? Order early — For an A3 or A2 poster or the wood frame, the estimated delivery time for your address is shown before payment — order early for Christmas.
- 🔭 Free 3D Sky Exploration — The immersive sky experience is offered free on the website, before or after ordering — explore the sky calculated for your date like in a planetarium. It stays optional.
Christmas gifts have an inflation problem: every year, the same categories are recycled. The escape is to gift a moment, not an object. The night sky of a date that matters to them is exactly that. Some moments deserve to be bottled. A summer evening embrace, a laugh that changed everything, a promise whispered low. The sky above those moments is the only thing that truly fixes them in the universe — every star, every planet, aligned in a way that will never repeat exactly. Starry Memory captures the precise trace.
Last-minute saves
If it's December 23 and you have nothing, the digital file is your answer. Print at home on any paper, frame it from any local shop, and you have an extraordinary gift for the morning.
For the recipient who has everything
Wealthy parents, retired grandparents, executives — the ones who don't need 'things'. A star map is one of the few gifts they can't already own, because no two skies are alike.
🔭 Free 3D Sky Exploration included
Our free 3D sky explorer, open to everyone on the website, is an interactive tool that lets you navigate the exact sky of your chosen date as if you were standing under the stars that night. Drag to change the angle, zoom into a specific constellation, identify every visible planet. We combine a printed poster with an immersive digital experience — not a static PDF, but a personalised planetarium for your moment.
Starry Memory vs other options: what's different
On the custom star map market, you mainly find three categories. All-physical services delivering a printed poster between $25 and $50, with a 3-10 day delay and expensive logistics passed on to the price. Marketplaces (Etsy) where each seller has their own quality, their own delay, with no guarantee of astronomical precision. Premium digital services charging $15-30 for a file, justifying it by careful design. Starry Memory positions itself elsewhere: €3.99 for the HD digital file, available to download on the site after payment validation, with a documented astronomical method and access to the 3D explorer included. For this occasion, this positioning means: no compromise on quality, price divided by 5 to 10.
Picking the right graphic theme for your poster
Six collection styles are available in the creator, each adjustable (colours, typography, constellations). Atelier Ivoire pairs a light background with dark stars, suited to a Scandinavian interior or an already-busy wall. Nuit d’Or and Bleu Minuit use a deep background with bright stars, for an adult bedroom or an office. Rose Aube brings soft tones, often chosen for a child’s room or a birth gift. Sauge Botanique evokes nature and suits bohemian interiors. Gravure Céleste recalls antique astronomy plates. This page works with all six; check the rendering in the preview before choosing a format.
The astronomical precision behind every chart
Every star position on your poster is computed from the HYG catalogue, which combines the three reference astronomical databases: Hipparcos (European Space Agency mission, 1989-1993), Yale Bright Star Catalogue, and Gliese Catalogue. Planetary positions are calculated with Astronomy Engine (VSOP87 and NOVAS models), an open-source library tested against JPL Horizons that documents an angular accuracy of about one arcminute. You can compare the main landmarks with Stellarium, SkySafari or Cartes du Ciel for the same date, time and place.
Frequently asked questions
What's the deadline for Christmas delivery?
Digital file: it downloads on the site as soon as payment is confirmed, even on December 24. Prints and frames: the delivery time to your address is shown before payment, so check it before ordering.
Can I gift it as a 'last-minute save'?
Yes — the digital file printed at home on regular paper for Christmas morning, with the premium framed print arriving the week after, is a popular combo.
What if I don't know the recipient's exact birthday?
Approximate is fine. The star positions barely shift over a few hours. Use a known anniversary, the year they were born, or a date that's significant to your relationship.
Can we add a personal message in the legend?
Yes — names, location, a custom dedication or quote. Fully editable in the live preview before checkout.
How does the 3D sky exploration work?
On the website, the immersive experience gives free access to an interactive web planetarium, before or after ordering. You can rotate the celestial sphere, zoom into any constellation, recognise the bright named stars. No installation required — works on smartphone, tablet or computer.
Does the poster work for a future date?
Yes — we can compute the sky up to 2100. The computation remains accurate, as star positions change very slowly on a human timescale.
